This once was my story and my mental challenge, to stay around and do what I enjoy but yet

Truth is at certain points in my career I had to do both, work for someone else and pursue my career as a hairstylist. It's hard I know as I had a family to raise, money to make, and a dream to chase all at the same time.

But when you stay the course things will begin to turn around. At some point the light begin to shine at the end of my tunnel and I was able to leave corporate america fully and became a full time hairstylist.

Did my struggle end because I left corporate america? No. There were just new struggles of navigating life as a full time hairstylist and not knowing there were so many things that I didn't know. Not knowing there were so many mistakes ahead that I would have to make to learn and grow in my mindset and how I saw myself. I had to shift from thinking like a hairstylist to thinking and acting like a business owner.

From barely making 5 figures a year to 5 figure months as a Braidless Microlink Artist!

I remember the very first time I filed my taxes as a full time hairstylist my income for the year was only a little over 5 thousand dollars.

The salon I worked for was a commission based salon and my salary was 50% of the service sales. Business was super slow back then for high-end hair extension services like Braidless Microlinks and there was no rapid and low-cost way to promote your services like it is today with social media. I had to use Craigslist daily and make ads, utilize Groupon, send emails, and rely on word-of-mouth.

Even with doing all the things, business just wasn't coming, but what I did do during this time was learn, study, and train as much as possible. I told myself when business decides to pick-up, I'd be ready to handle the business that was coming my way.

During the time I was working for this hair extension salon, my husband fail ill and I could no longer ride on a lower income, so I had to take another job to help my family survive. While working that job I still served clients during the evenings and on the weekends. I eventually left the hair extension salon to move into another salon that was closer to home.

After leaving the hair extension salon and finding a new salon home, it was like the flood-gates of heaven released clients my way. Only after being at the new salon for about 3 months, I left the day job to go back and work as a hairstylist full-time. But this time around it was different..I had acquired most of the tools need to not only be a better hairstylist, but to think and act like a business owner.
